There are many beliefs about ghosts. We cannot say who is superstitious; with things like this, it is best not to believe or disrespect them!
Stories about “ghosts in the house” continue to appear year after year. Some people are paralyzed by ghosts while sleeping. Some see shadows or hear sounds that make their hearts race. Others see a pale face appear openly, leaving them so frightened that they cannot stay in the house.
Most house ghosts are believed to be former owners who are possessive of their homes. Even after death, they remain trapped in the thought that “this is my house; no one may touch it!” Buyers of second-hand homes may hit the jackpot and see the former owner’s ghost visit every night.
People who have encountered ghosts advise that, if you meet one for the first time, try negotiating first. Ask basic questions as if you were conducting a job interview, such as What is your name? What are you doing here? Then make an agreement: “I will make merit for you, but please do not show yourself again; I am frightened.”
Most good-natured ghosts are easy to talk to. They do not come to harm anyone; they simply want to know what kind of person has moved into their old home and whether that person will take care of it. If we sincerely show that we are the new owners who are ready to care for the house and help them move on to a better place, living together with a ghost may not be difficult. After receiving merit, the ghost may even stop appearing.
But if you meet a bad-natured ghost, and talking, making merit, and bringing a monk into the house still do not stop the haunting, we must fight back with all kinds of ghost-repelling items to show that we are the new owner and are not afraid. Today we have gathered ghost-repelling items from different religions for everyone to try. We do not know whether they work, but at least you may feel one point more comfortable.
Consecrated rice and kitchen plants
For a Thai ghost, use Thai-style items. Start with kitchen plants that are easy to find at home, such as cloves and garlic. If the haunting still does not stop, you may need to rely on consecrated rice.
Holy water
Inviting a monk to sprinkle holy water around the house to drive away evil is something that should be done first when moving into a new home. If that is not convenient, you can go to a temple and ask a monk to bless water with a spell, then bring it home to place on the household shrine.
Onions
Onions were popular to grow in Egypt because the ancient Egyptians believed they absorbed negative energy and prevented it from entering the home. They are therefore another possible ghost-repelling item.
Zhongkui Talisman ghost-trapping stone keychain
The Zhongkui Talisman is a Chinese amulet believed to drive ghosts and inauspicious things away from the home. It is considered an effective ghost-fighting tool that many Chinese people use.
Protective yantra cloth
This is one of the most popular items. Whether moving into a new house, a new dormitory, or even getting a new car, people put up a yantra cloth for good fortune. It is also believed to keep ghosts away.
Burned spices and salt
Native American culture uses burned spices and salt, scattering them around the edges of the home. The smell of the spices is believed to drive ghosts away.
Cross
If the ghost is foreign, borrow a ghost-repelling item from another religion: the cross. Christians use the cross to drive ghosts, demons, and evil spirits out of the home. Anyone who has watched The Conjuring will have seen Lorraine use a cross to repel ghosts throughout much of the film.
These are examples of items we have gathered for everyone to choose from. Some are already familiar, and further research reveals many other surprising items that people believe can repel ghosts, such as white candles, white roses, or rosemary leaves. If you want to try them, go ahead and let us know how it works.
If you are paralyzed while sleeping, first check whether it was really a ghost or simply sleep paralysis. That way you will not waste time chasing ghosts when you should see a doctor instead. ^O^
